Our Mission

The mission of the St. Paul Boulevard Fire Department is to protect the lives and property of the citizens and visitors of the Town of Irondequoit by providing the highest levels of service through fire suppression, emergency medical services, fire prevention, public education, and the mitigation of the effects of natural and man-made disasters, consistent with the resources provided.

The St. Paul Boulevard Fire Department is dedicated to maintaining an efficient and progressive organization that is committed to retaining and motivating talented, dedicated career and volunteer personnel, ensuring a work environment that values cultural diversity and is free of harassment and discrimination. The District is committed to the highest ethical standards and ensures open communications to all levels of the organization.

History & Timeline of Events

1906

The Summerville, Windsor Beach, and White City Fire Association, located in White City, started providing fire services, although it was not officially incorporated until September 1914.

1908

The department purchased a two-wheeled hose cart and a 20-gallon chemical tank cart after the White City fire destroyed 52 homes.

Prior to 1924

The west side of the Town of Irondequoit, covering 9 square miles, had inadequate fire protection with three separate fire departments.

1924

The Gunson home fire highlighted the need for better fire protection, leading to the establishment of the St. Paul Boulevard Fire Association, with $50,000 appropriated to purchase equipment and build a fire station.

1925

The Cooper Road Firehouse was formally dedicated and opened on January 1.

1927

The St. Paul Fire Association marched at the fireman’s convention in Niagara Falls accompanied by their own band.

1931

Construction of another fire station at the southwest corner of Washington Avenue and Eaton Road began, and the dedication ceremony was held on September 1.

1934

The St. Paul Boulevard Exempt Firemen’s Association, a separate organization, was incorporated, and a farmhouse was remodeled into a clubhouse for the association in 1935.

1947

The St. Paul Boulevard Fire Association established its ambulance service.

1950

An addition was made to the Cooper Road Firehouse to accommodate more and larger vehicles, as well as meeting rooms.

1990

Construction for a new Cooper Road Firehouse began, and the building was completed and dedicated in 1991.

Present Day

The organization has nearly 60 volunteer and 16 paid firefighters who respond to around 1800 fire and ambulance emergencies annually. Volunteer recruitment is ongoing.
